According to the Vice- Chancellor, the modalities for distribution was being worked out by the University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof Ben Oghojafor. He therefore solicited the understanding and patience of all members of staff.
It would be recalled that ASUU, SSANU, NAAT, and NASU had gone on strike in September over Federal Government’s refusal to honour the terms of the 2009 agreement reached with the unions- including the non-payment of earned allowance.
This had prompted a series of remarks on the earned allowance by the leadership of the unions in November, during a valedictory parley in honour of the 11th Vice- Chancellor of the institution.
The former Vice- Chancellor, Prof Rahamon Bello, then said government was already working on modalities for disbursement of funds.
He therefore asked his successor Prof Ogundipe, to consider the issue as topmost on his agenda when he resumed office as VC.
